Sample Activities
For younger students: discuss why the composer chose each instrument
to represent the characters in Peter and the Wolf (page 2). Ask the students
what instrument would represent them if they were a character in the play.
Let them draw pictures of their instruments and share with the class why
they chose that instrument.
For older students: as a class, create a list of “characters” from
familiar stories that the students have seen or heard. Start with basic
fairy tales like The Three Little Pigs or Little Red Riding
Hood. Discuss
what makes each character different and unique i.e.: What do the characters
look like and/or sound like? How does each character behave? Then ask the
students to come up with an instrument to match each character. Discuss
why each instrument was chosen.
