All Good Things
"All
good things must come to an end" and
so it does for our Renaissance Campaign. On December 31, 2005, Merry-Go-Round
officially closed the capital campaign that lead to the recent
$2.5 million renovation and expansion project. While we ended
just short of our total need, we feel great satisfaction in raising
$2.2 million at a time of great economic uncertainty; a total well
beyond our initial goal of $1.9 million. Even though the costs
associated with construction of this wonderful facility did grow
in the years between the campaign’s birth and ground breaking,
we pushed ahead and shouldered the additional costs for as you’ve
heard Ed say repeatedly “we knew you were worth it.”

We are so grateful to our supporters who’ve gave
so generously to this campaign. It is an established fact that
institutions like the Merry-Go-Round depend upon the
financial support derived from individuals, businesses, foundations
and government agencies.
Thanks to all who helped to make this long
awaited dream a reality.
A History of the Renaissance
In September 1999, the Board of Directors of the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse
voted to renovate and expand our theatre facility located in Emerson
Park on Owasco Lake. The project, called the "Renaissance," allowed
the Playhouse to accomodate a growing audience and enhance technical artistry.
The plans for the new theatre called for increased seating of 501
seats, up from the previous 365, an expanded box office and lobby area, new
heating and cooling systems, the addition of a fly gallery, larger wing space,
a conventional orchestra pit at the front of the stage, remodeled and enlarged
dressing rooms each with accompanying smaller star dressing room and state
of the art lighting and sound systems. The project broke ground in November 2003. Over the course of the next seven
months, crews worked tirelessly to complete the renovation. The Preston
H. Thomas Theatre in the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse officially opened
its doors on Sunday May 23rd, 2004 with a Gala Opening and special
performance of the popular favorite, Forever Plaid.
